11 Wheelchair Quilt Patterns
Get your sizes just right with these handy wheelchair quilt patterns!

Sometimes the folks who need quilts the most are those in need. Whether you're quilting for a charity or for a special someone, there's a good chance that you'll have to make a wheelchair compatible quilt at some point.
While there is no standard size for wheelchair quilts, there are some things you should consider when choosing a pattern or designing your own. You could probably choose a smaller lap quilt to get the job done, but that doesn't necessarily guarantee that your quilt is wheelchair-friendly. We've selected our favorite quilts that meet the standards of wheelchair compatibility, so your next quilt for someone in need is both useful and meaningful!
Wheelchair Quilt Pattern Sizes
Wheelchair quilt should, ideally, be smaller than a throw, but there's really no one standard size. The perfect size is one that's substantial enough to be warm and give decent covering for whoever's using it but small enough that it's easy to manage and not cumbersome. Keep in mind the placement of the wheels as well. A quilt caught in wheelchair wheels is a recipe for disaster. The same goes for lap quilt patterns.
Here are FaveQuilts' recommended sizes for wheelchair quilts:
Wheel Chair Quilt Size |
Width | Length |
---|---|---|
Small | 33 inches | 40 inches |
Small Square | 36 inches | 36 inches |
Medium | 36 inches | 40 inches |
Large | 40 inches | 40 inches |
