How to Create the Columns for Your DIY Quilt

  1. Start by setting up your 12 quilting blocks in the order that you would like them. Having 3 blocks in each column and four rows total.

  2. Cut out eight 12.5 inch sashing strips to go inbetween each of your blocks in their rows. You can determine the width based on how much space you would like between each block. Just be sure to keep it consistent.

  3. Sew each of your blocks with the sashing pieces in between them.

  4. Put your rows together with a sashing piece between each row.

Pro Tip: "To discover how long to make each of your sashing pieces, measure each of your rows, add up that number, and divide it by four." - Carolina Moore

  5. Add an extra sashing piece to the top, bottom, and outside for border number one.

  6. Using another color fabric, add a second border around your quilt and sew this all together.
