How To Use Fleece For Quilt Backing

"Recently I made my first ever charity quilts and the charity in question prefers their volunteers to use fleece for the quilt backing so I decided to have a go even though I’d never used fleece before. I used three slightly different methods each time: The first quilt had a fleece backing, no batting and I used a self binding method. The quilting was done with a decorative stitch (no walking foot). The second quilt had a fleece backing, polyester batting and was bound with regular quilting cotton. Simple free motion quilting. The third quilt had a fleece backing, no batting, machine binding with cotton and a more complicated free motion quilting design. I’ll give you my step by step as well as my impressions of all these methods."

1. Soft and Cozy Finish: Fleece is known for its soft and cozy texture, making it the perfect choice for a quilt backing. Not only will it add an extra layer of warmth to your quilt, but it will also provide a luxurious feel that you'll love snuggling up with on a chilly evening.

2. Easy to Work With: Using fleece for the quilt backing is a great option for beginners or those who may be intimidated by the quilting process. Fleece is easy to sew with and forgiving when it comes to mistakes, making it a user-friendly option for both new and experienced quilters.

3. Versatile Design Options: Fleece comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns, allowing you to get creative with your quilt design. Whether you opt for a solid color fleece backing for a classic look or choose a fun and funky pattern to add a pop of personality to your quilt, the possibilities are endless when it comes to designing with fleece.

Overall, making a quilt project with fleece backing is a great way to create a warm, cozy, and visually appealing piece that you'll be proud to display or gift to a loved one. Give it a try and see how fleece can take your quilting projects to the next level!
