What Size is a Throw Quilt
What Size is a Throw Quilt

Throw quilt patterns are a lovely way to add some quilting warmth to your everyday life. Smaller and simpler than a bed quilt pattern, throw quilts make lovely little gifts in care packages and are super cozy. There's nothing better than curling up with a good book or your favorite tv show under your favorite quilt. If you're looking to make a throw quilt pattern for your home, you might be wondering what the optimal size is for these types of quilts

Truth be told, there's no perfect size for these types of quilts. While there are general rules, throw quilts are a Goldilocks type of pattern. You want to make it just right for whoever will be snuggling up with it. It really depends on who you are making the quilt for and where they will use the quilt. If it's for a big couch and it will likely be used for cuddling up, a bigger quilt will do! If it's going to live in a chair in a reading nook, something smaller and less bulky is ideal.

What is a throw quilt?

A throw quilt is generally a quilt that is used to snuggle underneath. These are most often utilized in a family or living room situation. They're perfect for snuggling up on the couch or even on your porch on a chilly evening. Throw quilts are larger than lap quilt patterns.

At a minimum, your throw quilt should be 40 inches wide and at maximum, it should be 80 inches long. Anything bigger or smaller is likely to be too small or too bulky. A good rule of thumb is to consider the height of the person using it.
