This quilt pattern would be a nice one to make with kids. I think they might not want to go through the process of quilting it on a sewing machine so they can learn to tie a quilt instead. I've made many charity quilts with a church group and we always tied them. If you coordinate the ties with the color of the fabric it looks very pretty. We found a curved needle worked best to get the embroidery floss through the layers of the quilt.
