This 7-step Popular Checkered Scrap Quilt Pattern is simple enough for beginners and elaborate enough for experts in DIY crafts. Although the checkers in this easy quilt design resemble hundreds of postage stamps, it is a very quick and easy-to-make quilt. Make the blanket as contemporary as you want by carefully sewing the seams of the craftt for a modern, put-together look. Find some leftover fabric scraps in your home and use them for the quilt squares as you go.

I finally finished my version of this quilt. I used a lot of different techniques including 9-patches to put this together. It took more than a year, but I love the quilt. It's the largest quilt I've ever made and I couldn't handle the quilting on my machine so it's part stitch in the ditch around the edges and tied in the center.

Goodness, this is a fabulous pattern for a wildly fun way to use up a ton of scraps! I like the idea stated in the pattern instructions of not cutting out all the needed pieces at once, but cutting some and sewing some along the way. This method would keep you from feeling like the cutting is taking forever, since there are 432 strips needed for a 54 1/2" x 54 1/2" quilt top! The pattern directions are very clear and the photos help you understand exactly how to put the thing together. This pattern is definitely going onto my "to make" list.

I made this quilt without any directions just because I had SO many scraps and loved the design. The directions given here are much easier than my loosy-goosy attempt, but the end result is still gorgeous. I couldn't bear to give it away as the scraps bring back so many memories of other quilts that quickly found new homes. I highly recommend this pattern! P.S. This picture is only one of three panels I made for this quilt. I don't have a finished photo yet. Sorry.
