Everything's Coming Up Roses

By: Cheryl A. Adam for FreeSpirit

Everything's Coming Up Roses captures the spirit of this floral quilt! With simple piecework and cheerful prints, you can't go wrong with this quilted sofa throw. Unlike most quilt patterns, this pattern relies on fussy cutting for much of its design.

  2. Sew a 1-1/2" x 6-1/2" strip of DD08 to the remaining two sides. Press.

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 fourteen more times to complete the blocks needed for the quilt.

Quilt Top Assembly:

  1. Refer to the quilt picture and alternate the pieced blocks with the 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" squares of DD02. Sew the vertical row together using 5 pieced blocks and 4 flower blocks, making sure to begin and end with a pieced block. Make three of these rows.

  2. Alternate a 6-1/2" x 54-1/2" strip of DD03 with the vertical row made in step 1. The quilt center starts and ends with a strip of DD03. Press all seams to one side.

Finishing:

  1. Sew the 1-1/2 yd. pieces of backing fabric together along the selvedge edge to make fabric large enough for the back of the quilt. Press.

  2. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.

  3. Sew the binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold the binding in half, lengthwise, with wrong sides together and press. Sew the raw edges of the binding to the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
