Day 24: Paper

View this post on Instagram

Day 24, is paper. I decided to go with FPP because I just had no time for hand piecing any EPP. Today was my oldest's 10th birthday and I had six 5th grade boys running around my house until noon (after a sleepover!!!) Needless to say this post is much later in the day than normal since I first had to glue all my hair back on after pulling it out!!! This pattern from @zephyrskies has been sitting in my to make pile for months. It is complicated but turned out seriously fun!!!! We have made it to the last week of the March Quilt Block Challenge. This week our sponsor is @fabriceditions so every block you make will give you a chance to win a fun bundle from them! And don't forget to head over to FaveQuilts.com to enter the national quilt month giveaway which includes everything we have given away all month!!!! Day 23: Be Brave

Today was Be Brave. I again used my classic curves ruler (linked in blog post in my profile.) I wanted to try some curves from strips. I was brave and tried a few things that didn't work so they didn't make it into the pretty after shot. This is my third go at curves this month and I am starting to feel much more confident!! Use the hashtag #favequilting2019 every time you share a quilt block this week to be entered to win a fun bundle of fabric from Fabric Editions. Each time you share a block and use the hashtag is an entry. **NOTE this giveaway is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram. Day 18: Playful

View this post on Instagram

Day 18 of the March Quilt Block Challenge is playful. I was going to try free cutting but I totally chickened out! These blocks are still super fun though and I am loving how they turned out! I also had to share these fun cards that my sweet friend from @lizoncall just released on her shop! They are so special and they make the perfect thoughtful moment for someone who you want to send sweet thoughts to! Check out her feed for more details!!! Today has been a crazy day and the day just kept getting away from me, but I am so glad I made time to sew these beautiful blocks! Don't forget to share your blocks!!! Use the hashtag #favequilting2019 every time you share a quilt block this week to be entered to win a fun bundle of fabric from #artgalleryfabrics Each time you share a block and use the hashtag is an entry. **NOTE this giveaway is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram. Day 17: Circles

Day 16: Non-traditional/modern

View this post on Instagram

Day 16!!! We are more than half way through the March Quilt Block Challenge!! I'm pretty excited about our sponsor for this week! @artgalleryfabrics has long been one of my favorite fabric brands! The hand is unlike anything else out there. This week I will be working with their new #puresolids because we all know solids are totally having a moment! Solids are perfect for modern quilting which is my favorite! Today's prompt was modern/non traditional and I played with some falling hexagons in varying shapes. The color gradually changes as the hexagons fall and get smaller. This week is a little different because I have planned out an entire quilt top. So this block is a big old 12.5 x 24.5 to fit into my quilt top. I'll share photos of the plan for the top in my stories. Day 13: Learn Something New

View this post on Instagram

Learn something new is the prompt for day 13. Today for me was about learning to use my classic curves ruler. I tried using it once and got frustrated and hid it so well that I had to order another one because I couldn't find it! But today I pulled it out and finally made something passable. It isn't perfect but do we ever nail something the first time we try it when quilting?!?! I sure don't!!! So now I have a much better grasp of the ruler and making these super fun curved blocks. So I learned to use my ruler, I learned to do curved piecing, and I learned to make an orange peel block! 3 for 1, totally winning!! I have put all the resources for these, including a link for the ruler and the YouTube video from @colorgirlquilts on how to use the ruler to make these, in the post linked in my profile. ⁣ Use the hashtag #favequilting2019 every time you share a quilt block this week to be entered to win a fun bundle of fabric from #monalunadesigns Each time you share a block and use the hashtag is an entry. **NOTE this giveaway is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram. Day 12: Patchwork

Day 8: Pattern play

Day 7: String/selvage

Day 6: Classic and traditional

View this post on Instagram

Day 6 is here!! Traditional/classic was hard for me because I am not great at following patterns and I usually wing it! This is a "friendship" block which is made up of half square triangles and squares. These two stackers from Riley Blake go so well together! I am enjoying playing with the Bliss and Serenade fabrics together. <3 Scroll to see the process of putting these blocks together. Questions, feel free to ask!! Don't forget to share your blocks for the challenge and use the hashtag #favequilting2019 every time you share this week to be entered to win a fun bundle of fabric from #rileyblakedesigns Each time you share a block and use the hashtag is an entry. **NOTE this giveaway is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram. ** Make sure that your account is public so I can see the block, and make sure you are following @fave.quilts @rileyblakedesigns and @sewwhatalicia to win that bundle!!! ⁣ I am going to randomly select our winner tonight so make sure and share all your blocks with the hashtag (on your public profile) and follow the hosts and sponsor! ⁣ #quiltblock #quilting #quiltlove #quiltdesign #quiltpattern #quiltsofinstagram #quiltersgonnaquilt #quiltinspiration #iquilt #quilts #quiltallthethings #modernquilter #quiltmaker #modernquilting #modernquilts #sewmuchfun #sewingproject #fabricart #colorplay #makemodern #paperpiecing #creativeinspiration #fabricaddict #sewing #sewsewsew #isew #sewwhatalicia #favequilts

Day 5: Pretty in pink

View this post on Instagram

If you couldn't tell from my feed I am a pink kind of girl. The day 5 prompt for the March Quilt Block challenge is "pretty in pink." If you aren't into pink you should totally go ahead and use your favorite color. There are so many beautiful and fun pinks in the Bliss and Serenade fabric lines from Riley Blake that I had no problem creating a fabulous pink block. To create this block I started with a half square triangle, then I added a triangle on either side. Last I added another triangle onto the remaining two sides to make it square. I used scraps from my X blocks to create this entire block. This one comes together really quickly!!!! ⁣ ⁣ Use the hashtag #favequilting2019 every time you share a quilt block this week to be entered to win a fun bundle of fabric from #rileyblakedesigns Each time you share a block and use the hashtag is an entry. **NOTE this giveaway is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram. ** Make sure that your account is public so I can see the block, and make sure you are following @fave.quilts @rileyblakedesigns and @sewwhatalicia to win that bundle!!! ⁣ ⁣ #quiltblock #quiltlove #quiltsofinstagram #quiltersgonnaquilt #quiltinspiration #iquilt #quilts #quiltallthethings #modernquilter #quiltmaker #modernquilting #modernquilts #sewmuchfun #creatives #creativelife #sewingproject #fabricart #colorplay #makemodern #makersgonnamake #makeallthethings #creativeinspiration #fabricaddict #sewsewsew #isew #sewwhatalicia #favequilts #prettyinpink

Day 4: Global

View this post on Instagram

Today I used my @officialcricut #cricutmaker to play with some fun shapes. I was inspired by the globe drawings with buildings going in a circle. I wanted to create something that showed how we are all united while still celebrating our differences. I pressed Heat N Bond to the back of mine fabric from the 10" stacker. Then I cut the design using my Cricut Maker. I used both the inside and the outside on two separate 10" squares to create two fun blocks. Peel the paper from the Heat N Bond and then press (I used my Cricut EasyPress2 to press.) I have linked the file for cutting this with your cutting machine as well as the supplies I have used in my profile. ⁣ ⁣ #quiltblock #quiltlove #quiltdesign #quiltpattern #quilting #quiltinspiration #iquilt #quilts #quiltallthethings #modernquilter #quiltmaker #modernquilting #modernquilts #sewmuchfun #creatives #creativelife #sewingproject #fabricart #makemodern #makersgonnamake #makeallthethings #creativeinspiration #fabricaddict #sewsewsew #isew #sewwhatalicia #favequilts

Day 3: Shine bright like a diamond

Day 2: Precuts

View this post on Instagram

Day 2 of the March Quilt Block Challenge is "PRECUTS." Today I cracked open these two amazing precut stackers. The Bliss is a 5" stacker and the Serenade is a 10" stacker. To create the "x" block you need to cut two 5" squares into four equal 2.5" squares. Then you also need four more 5" squares from the stacker (so you will use 6 of the squares for one "x block." Place the 2.5" squares kitty corner to the each other on the 5" square (right side down.) ***Use your ruler to draw a diagonal line on the 2.5" squares. Sew along the line you drew. Repeat this step until you have sewn the two small squares onto each of the four 5" squares. ***Trim the excess below the seams. Press the seams to the dark side. ***Now line the four squares up so that they create an X. ***Sew the four squares together by sewing the top two together, sewing the bottom two together, then sewing the two sides together. TIPS>>>>You can rotate these blocks to create an O. You can also create a larger X block by using the 5" squares on the corner of the 10" stacker. This will make much bigger blocks meaning you have to make fewer blocks to finish an entire quilt. Then you also don't have to do any cutting ;) Don't forget to share your precut block and use the challenge hashtag. Remember you don't have to create the same block I created! You do you boo!! Use the hashtag #favequilting2019 every time you share a quilt block this week to be entered to win a fun bundle of fabric (with these two stackers!!) from #rileyblakedesigns Each time you share a block and use the hashtag is an entry. **NOTE this giveaway is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram. ** Make sure that your account is public so I can see the block, and make sure you are following @fave.quilts @rileyblakedesigns and @sewwhatalicia to win that bundle!!! #quiltblock #quilting #quiltlove #quiltdesign #quiltpattern #quiltersgonnaquilt #quiltinspiration #quilts #quiltallthethings #quiltmaker #modernquilting #sewmuchfun #creatives #creativelife #sewingproject #fabricart #colorplay #makemodern #makersgonnamake #makeallthethings #creativeinspiration #fabricaddict #sewing #sewsewsew #isew #sewwhatalicia #favequilts
