Hexagon Table Topper

If you love hexagon quilt designs, this quilt pattern for table toppers is perfect for you! The Hexagon Table Topper looks just like a hexagon flower surrounded by border hexagons. Use an Accuquilt cutter to make quick work of the hexagons.

Project Type: Make a Project

Quilt Size: 17.5 inches wide x 18.75 inches long

Time to complete: Weekend project

Primary Technique: Pieced

Difficulty Level: Intermediate

MATERIALS:

  • Fat quarter or 1/4 yard each of light, medium and dark fabrics
  • 6" scrap for center hexagon
  • 5/8 yard backing fabric
  • 20" square for batting
  • Accuquilt Go! fabric cutter
  • Accuquilt Go! hexagons 2", 3", 5" (55011)
  • Accuquilt Go! 6" x 12" mat (55112)

CUTTING DIRECTIONS:

  • Cut 6—hexagons with 2-1/2" sides from dark fabric
  • Cut 6—hexagons with 2-1/2" sides from medium fabric
  • Cut 6—hexagons with 2-1/2" sides from light fabric
  • Cut 1—hexagon with 2-1/2" sides from center fabric


SEWING DIRECTIONS:

  1. By hand or machine sew together hexagons using a 1/4" seam allowance and stopping 1/4" in from “corners” as shown by dots in small diagram. Reinforce stitching at dots.

  2. Press seams toward center of table topper.


QUILTING & FINISHING:

  1. Layer table topper with batting.
     
  2. Pin or baste layers together.
     
  3. Machine quilt 1/4" from seams with matching thread. Trim excess batting.
     
  4. Layer quilted table topper front and backing square right sides together.
     
  5. Pin and sew around outer edges, pivoting at “corners” of hexagons. Leave a 4" opening.
     
  6. Clip “corners” and turn right sides out. Press.
     
  7. Hand stitch opening closed.

Use the other two sizes of hexagons to create smaller table toppers or candle mats!
