Bring your next housewarming gift in a stylish, homemade wine caddy! These instructions for wine bottle gift bags will teach you how to make quilted wine caddies that you can give as gifts or use for picnics and other outings.

Project Type: Make a Project

Caddy Size: 5.75 inches wide x 11.5 inches long

Time to complete: In an evening

Primary Technique: Whole Cloth

Difficulty Level: Beginner

Materials:

  • 2 fat quarters
  • 1/3 yd fusible fleece
  • Coordinating thread

Instructions:

  1. Cut one 12" x 13" piece of fabric, two 13" x 2-1/2 " pieces, one piece of 11-1/2" x 11-1/2" fusible fleece, and one piece of 12" x 2" fusible fleece.

  2. Fuse the larger piece of fleece to the wrong side of the larger piece of fabric and the other piece of fusible fleece to the wrong side of one of the handle pieces.

  3. Pin right sides of the handle pieces together and sew both long sides with a 1/4 inch seam.

  4. Turn handle right side out.  Quilt handle and bag.  I used a flower and leaf free motion design.

  5. Fold large piece in half with right sides together and sew the long side and one of the shorter sides using 1/4 inch seams.

  6. Make a line 1 inch from the point of each corner. Sew and trim.

  7. Turn ends of handle under 1/4 inch and press. Pin handle ends into bag, overlapping about 1/2 inch. Sew in place and go over the sewing a second time.
