Citrus Bandana Quilt

MATERIALS AND CUTTING DIRECTIONS:

  • 1 Panel Fabric A - DC5206 Citrus Le Bandana
    -Fussy cut one 18-1/2" square for the center block.

  • 2/3 yd. Fabric B - DC5203 Sherbet Cercle de Fleurs
    -Cut two 5-7/8" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into fourteen 5-7/8" squares.
    -Cut two 2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into two 2" x 18-1/2" strips and two 2" x 21-1/2" strips for the center borders.

  • 1-1/8 yds. Fabric C - DC5202 Lime Pirouette
    -Cut three 5-7/8" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into twenty 5-7/8" squares. Cut six of these squares across one diagonal to make twelve triangles.
    -Cut three 5-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into sixteen 5-1/2" squares.

    -Cut four 5-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into twenty-four 5-1/2" squares.

    -Cut three 5-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into twenty 5-1/2" squares.

    -Cut four 5-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into twenty-eight 5-1/2" squares.

    -Cut four 5-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into twenty-four 5-1/2" squares.

    -Cut three 5-1/2" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into twenty 5-1/2" squares.

    -Cut two 5-1/2" strips. Sub-cut into twelve 5-1/2" squares.

    -Cut seven 2-1/2" x 42" strips for binding.

  • 4-1/2 yds. Backing - DC5200 Citrus Fleur de Soleil
    -Cut two 78" x 42" strips. Piece the strips together and trim to make one 78" x 78" backing piece.

  • Scissors, straight pins, acrylic ruler, mat, rotary cutter

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Place one 5-7/8" Fabric C square on top of one 5-7/8" Fabric B square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square (Fig. 1). Sew 1/4" away from each side of the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 1). Cut the two squares apart on the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 2) to make two half-square triangles (Fig. 3). Repeat to make twenty-eight half-square triangles.

  2. Sew one 2" x 18-1/2" Fabric B strip to each side of the 18-1/2" Fabric A square. Sew one 2" x 21-1/2" Fabric B strip to the top and bottom of the Fabric A square to make one 21-1/2" center block (Fig. 4).

  3. Refer to the corner unit layout to sew together the assorted 5-1/2" fabric squares, twenty-eight half-square triangle blocks, and twelve Fabric C triangles to make four corner units (Fig. 5).

  4. Starting and stopping 1/4" from the center block edges, sew one corner unit to each side of the center block to make the quilt top.
     
  5. Fold the quilt top in half, wrong sides together. Starting at the 1/4" point on one center block corner (represented with the arrow), sew together two adjacent corner units, represented with the dotted lines (Fig. 6).

  6. Open the quilt top and press (Fig. 7).

  7. Layer, quilt, and bind as desired.
